Memberships: Jane Gillies has worked for several years in the communications industry as a writer, marketer and project manager. Making the change from full time employment to freelancing has given Jane time to write for herself, and she is constantly surprised by how much she has grown to love it. Jane also takes great pleasure in her family, close friends and surroundings, and counts herself lucky in them. Singing, reading, playing music, and spending time on White Head Island are of deep interest to her too. White Head, in particular, has influenced Jane and her writing greatly. The WFNB’s members are eager and open to sharing their thoughts and writing experiences, something for which Jane is grateful. The WordsSpring and WordsFall events have been invaluable to her as a new writer, and Jane looks forward to more workshops through the Federation. As a regional representative for the group, she hopes to help the organisation grow its membership and to act as an effective liaison between the WFNB and her community. Narrative, fiction, short stories and personal essays Memberships: Carla Gunn lives in Fredericton, N.B. where, with the support of Canada Council Memberships: I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, in the days when it was easy to cross the Lions Gate Bridge at any time of day, and the Pacific was clean, sparkling and superb for swimming! After high school graduation I pursued my musical studies at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1963 with an Artist Diploma. I immediately headed to NYC where I studied piano for two amazing years. Following a glorious summer at the Yale Summer School of Art and Music I entered Yale University as a graduate student (MM 1970, DMA 1975), then lived in California for 5 years where I taught music at Whittier College. In 2003 I was appointed Professor Emeritus of Music at Mount Allison University where I taught from 1975 to 2001 -- piano majors, chamber music, collaborative piano, Keyboard History and Literature, and a course of my own design entitled "Sonic Explorations" which centred on the meditative practice of Deep Listening. My recitals of solo and collaborative piano music have been presented across Canada, in the United States, and in Europe. I have always championed the performance of new music. On November 9, 2009, during the Canadian Music Centre’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, I was honoured as one of 50 Ambassadors of Canadian music. These lifetime achievement awards were given to outstanding Canadian performers and conductors who have played exceptional roles in shaping the Canadian music scene and raised the profile of Canadian music. During the past three years I have enjoyed teaching Music Appreciation to enthusiastic seniors at the Tantramar Seniors’ College in Sackville. Composing music and writing words have been a life-long joy. I am presently writing a book which, while grounded in reality, is inspired by the mystery and magic of a dog named Rita Mae, as well as by the natural phenomenon and associated mythologies of New Brunswick's Reversing Falls. Biography:
That was the extent of my writing until a few years ago, when I sat down to pen courtroom drama “just for fun.” I later wrote a second book, Stella’s Plea, which I literally fell in love with and I entered it in a publishing contest. I didn’t win that year so I edited (with the help of a few proofreaders) and re-entered the same contest the following year. This time I made the shortlist.
“Stella’s Plea” is the story of a three year old child who is kidnapped and her mother’s struggle to find her. It is nearing its correction stages, and I hope to have it self-published by summer 2012. Keep an eye out on Amazon and Smashwords.
My main interests are reading and writing.Notes

The Toronto Quarterly Anne-Marie Hood
Biography:
Her love of reading and writing began in childhood but she didn’t seriously pursue writing until 2003. She later enrolled in a distance-education Creative Writing Program through Quality of Course based in Ottawa and received her diploma in creative writing in May 2007. This provided a wonderful opportunity to explore and try different genres of writing.
Anne-Marie’s articles, author interviews, book reviews, column, recipe submissions and short stories have been published in books, newspapers and magazines.
Her interests are varied and include: church, cooking, gardening, reading, singing in the Smythe Street choir, and volunteering. She believes in being involved in the community and has many years experience as a volunteer. She was a volunteer with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity for close to five years. During this time she wrote various articles on their behalf for the local newspaper and affiliate newsletter.
Back in 2008, she was part of a team of twenty who went on a mission trip to New Orleans to assist with the aftermath of Katrina. The trip was organized through the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church and the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. The following year they went to Port Arthur, Texas. The damage done by Hurricane Ike and Rita gave volunteers plenty to do. Again her writing skills were put to use as she wrote about the experience for a Christian publication called The Banner.
She currently volunteers for the Bibles for Missions Thrift Store on Fredericton’s northside and the Village of Hope in Tracy. Anne-Marie’s writing skills enabled her to write articles and create a pamphlet to promote the organizations. Notes
