Carey, entrants must be NB born or residents of NB or members of WFNB (regardless of where they live).

Simultaneous submissions are alright. We just don't want manuscripts that have been published or contractually scheduled for publication before our deadline date.

Do I have to be born/from NB to enter?

I also submitted a poetry collection in the hopes of being published, but I haven't been published in any capacity yet. Am I still allowed to submit?

Hi Neil,
For 2013 we will consider creating a humour category with both baking and animal pun themes, as well as a Longest Short Novel Competition. The demand is, of course, off the charts.

Hi Lee (not Selassie)
 I’m still confused about format.
If I wanted to write about a baker who was known for using small loaf pans while hunting bobcats on his day off, would I end up with short bread or a short tale?
I could keep the whole thing under 5000 words (a short short story) or I could, for a mere 45,000 additional words, offer up to the world its first long short novel novella.
 What do you recommend?
Neil – (you remember, don’t you; the guy you signed up last year?)

Colleen, when short stories move beyond 15,000 words they're often called novellas (or short novels), while novels, typically, are over 50,000 words. In our competition we accept anything in between 15,000 - 30,000, and, as stated, this can be an entire novella or part of a longer work. Regards, Lee
